Rockport Library
PROJECT DETAILS
SCOPE
Over the course of nearly a decade, the Town of Rockport, Maine, its citizens and leadership thoughtfully envisioned, reimagined, planned and debated all aspects of building a new public library. Designed by local firm Stephen Smith Architects and constructed by Phi Builders (now Hay Runner), this two-story building overlooking Rockport Harbor was the first newly constructed building in the downtown area of Rockport in nearly a century. The small but mighty library boasts a classic exterior brick façade, red oak floors, mahogany doorways, a second-story balcony that overlooks downtown and the harbor, a public park, and even a small garden. Envisioned for the entry, Phi proudly designed and crafted the grand circulation desk, meant as an architectural highlight and the hub of energy for the library.
