We’re seeking an experienced Lead Carpenter to take a hands-on leadership role on residential job sites. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in all phases of residential construction and remodeling, communicates well with clients and teams, and can lead a crew while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
As a Lead Carpenter at Hay Runner, you will:
Lead the day-to-day execution of custom residential construction projects
Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Frame, install trim, cabinetry, windows, doors, and other finish work
Manage and mentor carpentry team members and apprentices on site
Coordinate with subcontractors and communicate progress with the project manager
Ensure job sites are clean, organized, and safe
Track materials, report progress, and flag potential issues proactively
Maintain positive client relationships and represent the company professionally
Qualifications:
5+ years of carpentry experience, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
Strong knowledge of residential framing, finish work, and remodeling best practices
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Self-starter who can work independently and with a team
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
OSHA 10 or 30 certification a plus

We are seeking a skilled, full-time woodworker to join our millwork shop team. This role involves the fabrication of custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, and specialty wood elements for residential and commercial projects.
The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and takes pride in producing high-quality work while maintaining efficiency in a collaborative shop environment.
As a Millwork Team Member at Hay Runner, you will:
Fabricate custom cabinetry, built-ins, and architectural millwork
Interpret shop drawings and plans to execute precise builds
Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently
Select appropriate materials and methods for each project

Qualifications & Skills
Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), and Bluebeam.
Experience with additional rendering or modeling software such as Rhino or 3ds Max is a plus.
Strong understanding of interior design principles, space planning, color theory, lighting design, and material selection.
Knowledge of construction documentation, renovation processes, and residential and/or commercial construction practices.
Strong drafting and technical communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What you'll do
Lead daily site operations
Coordinate crews, subcontractors, and deliveries to keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Keep projects aligned
Work closely with project managers, clients, and trade partners to ensure timelines, budgets, and expectations stay on track.
Read the plans, solve the problems
Review drawings, specifications, and site conditions to anticipate challenges and keep workflows smooth.
Champion safety
Maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant jobsite by conducting regular safety checks and reinforcing best practices with the team.
Use the tools that keep us connected
Manage schedules, updates, and reporting through Buildertrend so everyone stays informed and accountable.
Protect quality from start to finish
Inspect work, coordinate corrections when needed, and ensure every phase meets Hay Runner standards and project specifications.
Document the work
Complete daily logs, progress reports, safety records, and other site documentation accurately and consistently.
Build a strong team culture
Assign tasks clearly, support crew development, and foster a jobsite built on respect, accountability, and craftsmanship.
What we're looking for
Proven experience supervising construction projects and leading field teams.
Strong knowledge of scheduling, budgeting, blueprint reading, and construction estimating.
Comfort using construction management software, especially Buildertrend.
Solid understanding of OSHA safety standards and a commitment to enforcing them.
Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing day-to-day site logistics.
Strong communication skills and confidence reading technical drawings and schematics.
Familiarity with quality control processes and site documentation practices.

Take ownership of multiple projects throughout the entire lifecycle, ensuring milestones, budgets, schedules, and client expectations are successfully managed.
Build strong client relationships
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing clear communication, proactive updates, and an exceptional project experience.
Develop and manage project schedules
Create and maintain project timelines, coordinate resources, and identify potential roadblocks before they impact progress.
Oversee budgets and financial performance
Track project costs, review proposals and change orders, monitor profitability, and work closely with leadership to keep projects financially healthy.
Coordinate teams and trade partners
Collaborate with Site Supervisors, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure work is aligned, organized, and moving forward efficiently.
Manage project documentation
Maintain contracts, change orders, meeting notes, schedules, and project records through Buildertrend and other project management systems.
Support quality and craftsmanship
Work alongside field leadership to ensure projects meet Hay Runner's standards for quality, functionality, and client satisfaction.
Solve problems before they become issues
Anticipate challenges, make informed decisions, and keep projects moving forward with confidence and professionalism.
