Westbrook

Up and coming, Lively, Diverse City, Just West of Portland.

Westbrook, Maine is considered part of Greater Portland and is situated along the Presumpscot River. It’s one of the fastest cities growing in Maine for many reasons—it has reasonable property taxes, its proximity to Portland, lakes, beaches and mountains, and urban development. For these reasons it has become a residential and business hub.

There is plenty to do and see in this growing city. See a concert at Maine Savings Pavilion at Rock Row, or take a walk on Westbrook River Walk, which follows the bank of the river into Westbrooks River Bank Park and historic downtown. Locals and visitors frequently stop by places like local non-profit cafe, Roots Cafe, for coffee and lunch. Mast Landing Brewing Company offers a tasting room and weekly community events. You also may also remember Westbrook for it’s worldwide famous ice disc phenomenon.

There is no shortage of medical facility, retail, entertainment and outdoor activity development that is creating opportunity, and jobs. Keep and eye on this city!

First-hand Hay Runner insight

"Westbrook is the ideal place to live - Portland is right at hand but it feels like a small town! The city & the folks who live there have worked hard to make sure that living in Westbrook is great. The schools are good, downtown is adorable and walkable, and those of us living here know it takes all kinds of different folks to make a city!"

  • Formerly an industrial site, the Westbrook River Walk is an example of an incredible transformation from the city's industrial roots to a sweet place for a walk and some peach and quiet. You’ll find many spots for a photo or two along the river, on the gravel, pavement or boardwalk next to the river.

  • Move to Maine, and trust us, everyone will want to know. The truth is, yes! However, the ocean at our footsteps keeps it tolerable, and you will adapt. You’ll want a good jacket, and before you know it, at the end of March, Spring will lead us to our ever so loved Summer. If you want more snow, head West.

The other great part of a Maine Winter? Even though there are plenty of attractions in Greater Portland to share with tourists, traffic will be lower in the Winter, so throw on a pair of boots and enjoy!

  • We’ve got some stats:

According to the US census, median household income is $71,335 . The average home price: $216,400 , and the average rental is around $900.
